BIPP Scottish Awards - April 2004

Stewart was named both Portrait and Wedding Photographer of the Year. He is presented with his award by Ilford's sales manager, Mike Dooley. The ceremony was held in Pitlochry and was attended by many of Scotland's top photographers.

Stewart is the first photographer to win the portrait title three times, winning three times in the past four years. It is the first time he has won the Wedding title. He was also nominated for two other Gold Awards in the Portrait category.

"Portraiture is my favourite photographic discipline, and I am delighted to have been very consistent in that award over the years. It was a surprise to win the wedding category outright, but again I was delighted."

The winning portrait is of Charlotte Anne McKee and was taken in the studio in Aviemore during a family sitting, while the wedding one was a portrait of local bride, Vicky McCafferty née Watt.

Stewart, who last year was named Scottish Photographer of the Year at the same ceremony, was delighted with this year's accolade. He is pictured receiving his honours from President-Elect of the Institute, Khalida Rahman at the Awards dinner in Kinross.

“No-one has ever managed to win the portrait award two years in a row and I am absolutely delighted. The winning portrait was taken on a commercial assignment at Tomintoul Distillery and is of the distillery manager Robert Fleming nosing a sample of cask whisky – it was just one of those moments when all the ingredients of a picture work!”
